About

Julie sat on an airplane for the first time at the ripe old age of 26! It was a Malaysia Airlines flight from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu.

Because it was her first time and the plane was freezing, she walked up to the stewardess to ask for a blanket - while the plane was taking off!

Since then, navigating airplanes and airports come second nature to Julie. She has travelled extensively since 2007 to 38 countries and counting, whilst keeping a full-time job.

Her first solo trip was to Chiang Mai in Thailand and Hanoi in Vietnam. That trip was a prelude to another solo trip, this time to ancient Egypt where she fell in love with the culture and tombs, but not with the Egyptian men whom she thinks are all crazy!

The wake-up call to travel came after she realised many of her friends were seeing the world and she was not. She was missing out on something in life that she has control over.

This blog is a labour of love that combines Julie's love for travel and blogging.

Julie on the city walls of Dubrovnik in Croatia. She had to sacrifice her beauty sleep so that she could climb the walls at 8.00am when there was hardly anyone around to photobomb her.

Julie taking a selfie with a kangaroo in Wilson's Promontory National Park in Victoria, Australia. She had initially wanted to put her arm around the kangaroo but she was afraid the animal would punch her.

Julie trying to look cool on Mt Nebo in Jordan.

More about Julie and her travels:
  • Travel style: Flashpack, because I'm getting too old to be strapping a backpack.
  • Travel mantra: See, taste and experience the local culture, for every culture is unique in its own way.
  • Travel goal: Initially Julie's goal was to step foot on 7 continents. But after realising that Antartica is one of them, she now aims to travel to a minimum of 30 countries.
  • Favourite travel quote: "The world is like a book. Those who do not travel read only a page." - St Augustine.

If you're wondering why Julie is hidden behind a pair of shades in two out of the three photos above, it's not because she aspires to become a Secret Service agent. It's because she suffers from astigmatism and both photos were taken outdoors where the sun was bright and blinding.

Hi Cici,

Solo travel has its pros and cons. And I don't blame your parents if they don't allow you to because it can be dangerous if you're not experienced.

Don't worry ... your time to travel will come eventually. I sat on an airplane for the first time at 26 and started travelling extensively only in my 30s :-)

Sorry for being away from checking your fantastic blog. Been on the road myself.
You have left your footprints in many places and probably on a few hearts and I admire your spunk, your courage and your determination.
