During the reception, a boy came on stage to belt out Bruno Mars' When I Was Your Man. Now for the benefit of those who don't know the song, listen carefully to the lyrics:
The song is about a guy who regrets not treating his girlfriend right. And now she has left him for another guy.
Do you think it's an appropriate song to sing at a wedding?
The boy may not understand the meaning of the song and could have selected it due to various reasons. But I think there must be some form of screening to ensure only appropriate wedding songs are sung at the reception.
So what are suitable songs to be played or sung at weddings? Here are my Top 13 favourite songs (yeah I know 13 is a taboo number for some people) to be played at weddings (in alphabetical order):
- From Here to the Moon and Back - Dolly Parton (original singer was Willie Nelson)
- A Moment Like This - Leona Lewis
- At Last - Etta James
- At the Beginning - Richard Marx & Donna Lewis (whatever happened to them?)
- Bless the Broken Road - Rascal Flatts
- Endless Love - Mariah Carey & Luther Vandross (original singers were Lionel Ritchie & Diana Ross)
- From This Moment - Shania Twain
- Hold My Hand - Michael Jackson ft. Akon
- I Do - Westlife
- I Will Always Love You - Whitney Houston (original singer was Dolly Parton)
- The Power of Love - Celine Dion (original singer was Jennifer Rush)
- Tonight I Celebrate My Love - Peabo Bryson & Roberta Flack
- When I Fall in Love - Nat King Cole
So that's a little sharing before I head to Jakarta tomorrow to frolic in the sun on Thousand Island (no, not the salad dressing).
